Wedding Industry – Christy’s Engage Recap

Hello Wednesday!
It’s been a while!  There has been a lot going on with TDE lately and launching a new website put a little delay on some of our blog posts and updates.  Check out the rest of our new site:!

As Trisha posted a few weeks back, we were in San Diego for Engage!11, a luxury wedding industry conference.  I had been looking forward to this all year.  Trisha went to Engage!10 last summer in Palm Beach and when we found out this year’s was going to be on the West coast, we made the commitment together and marked our calendars.  I want to share some of the Engage details here before things get crazy around the office with our upcoming weddings and summer travel plans.  Engage was so packed with information, inspiration, introductions, motivation and swag…my head has been swimming since I returned home.  I feel so blessed to have gone to Engage and I can’t wait to implement some of what I learned there into TDE this year!  Here’s a link to the Engage!11 video by Cloud Nine Production.

I arrived on Monday in San Diego and shared a cab to the beautiful Grand del Mar hotel with Kate Miller, an awesome wedding planner and designer in Sacramento and my first official Engage friend.  She and I talked shop on the way to the hotel and then met up with our suite-mates for a snack (and cocktail for Kate and I!).  Trisha had arranged for our small group to share connecting rooms…a few of them had met at last years Engage and really hit it off.  Amy Nichols, Daniela Ferdico-Faget , and Katy Carrier met us at the restaurant and we all got to know each other a little before the big welcome presentation.  The first day at Engage was off to a fabulous start!

Here’s the quick and dirty so I don’t bore you.  In 3 days, I saw and heard from Rebecca Grinnals and Kathryn Arce of Engaging Concepts (they created this fabulous conference), Sean Low, Diann Valentine, Julie Hill, Bruce Patterson, Michelle Rago, Katy Carrier, Abby Larson of Style Me Pretty, Carley Roney of The Knot, motivational speakers Cindy Novotny and Simon T. Bailey, David Beahm, and celebrity planners Marcy Blum, Mindy Weiss and Todd Fiscus.  I was also thrilled to see Silvia Weinstock give a cake-decorating presentation while having lunch under a beautiful tent.  I admit I was a bit star-struck!

Welcome Party!

The whole three days were packed and awe-inspiring.  I left the Grand del Mar feeling empowered to do MORE and to do BETTER.  I love this industry, I love my job and I love working with Trisha and TDE.  I felt very proud to be at Engage!11 with her and am very much looking forward to what’s to come!

Here’s something I jotted down in my notebook in the midst of Engage presentations:
“I’ve been told I am “the best of the best” every day, several times a day.  It wasn’t long before I started to believe it myself.”
